FreeFlight Systems offers a wide
range of GPS sensors and GPS based Navigation
Management Systems (NMS). These systems are fitted
as original equipment (OEM) and retrofits in multiple
platforms and are proven to be of the highest quality
and reliability.
Around the world, our customers
are realizing the operational and safety benefits
that come with a high quality GPS installation such
as improved routing and transoceanic capability. Today
these benefits are being enhanced by the emergence
of GPS based Air Traffic Management Systems such as
ADS-B and by the proliferation
of safety systems
such as TAWS and HTAWS whose operation is enabled
in part by GPS.
Retrofitting a GPS system into
an aircraft can be complex and expensive - especially
if the GPS is to be deeply integrated with the aircraft's
existing systems. FreeFlight Systems has developed
a family of cost-effective GPS retrofit solutions
to simplify this task while retaining the benefits
of a well integrated
avionics system.
We know that most of the aircraft
that will receive our systems have seen some changes
since leaving the factory, so we treat each retrofit
as a unique challenge. Our technical support team
is ready to assist you with the design and implementation
of your installation.
The general approaches to retrofit
and the applicable FreeFlight Systems solutions are
categorized below:
- Simple addition
of a stand alone Navigation
Management System (NMS).
The FreeFlight 2101 Approach
NMS series comes with all the functionality
you need to add IFR capable GPS navigation to your
aircraft. The RNP-10 / RNAV-5 capable system has
interface capability to talk to the instrument panel
and can provide guidance via flight director / CDI
for en route and terminal operations and GPS IFR
approaches. The TSO-C129 GPS engine is also approved
as an ADS-B position sensor in some (non-US) jurisdictions.
World class navigation data is provided by Jeppesen.
- Integration of NMS
to the flight control systems. The FreeFlight
Systems 2101 I/O NMS series has all the features
of the Approach model, plus additional interfaces
for coupling to the aircraft flight control system.
- Addition of GPS
to an existing Flight Management System (FMS).
FreeFlight Systems, in collaboration with Fokker
Air Services, has developed a retrofit package that
adds a high integrity Space Based Augmentation System
(SBAS) GPS receiver to an existing non-GPS FMS.
The high integrity GPS data is used to enhance the
output of an existing Inertial Navigation system
(INS) and feed the data to the existing FMS. This
minimally intrusive modification supports aircraft
operation to the RNP 0.3 standard.
- Addition of GPS
for Non-Navigation Applications. The FreeFlight
Systems family of Space Based Augmentation System
(SBAS) enhanced GPS sensors is ideal for providing
a high integrity GPS source for non-navigation functions
such as ADS-B position
sensor, TAWS and HTAWS position sensor, flight
data recorder geo-position data, and SATCOM
antenna steering. With multiple interface configurations
the FreeFlight Sytems certified SBAS sensors are
a cost effective, low weight solution for your non-navigational
GPS needs.
